    Back Braces For Scoliosis

A common human spine has a natural curvature that allows for mobility, such as walking, balancing, and moving in general. But when the degree of curvature becomes too much, this outcomes in a condition better known as scoliosis.

    What is Scoliosis?

The word comes from the Greek scoliosis, which means "curvature." But its name is only used to describe the condition without necessarily pointing out how it springs up in the first place. Why does a person with scoliosis have an abnormally curved spine? What makes the spine curve so?

Unfortunately, the medical community has no answer to those questions yet. No one knows what causes it, making them refer to the condition as "idiopathic" (or causes unknown).

Some say that scoliosis could be hereditary. Others have noticed that it's more commonly found in girls than boys. As a matter of fact, one research study found that girls over the age of 9 are five periods more likely to develop scoliosis than boys of the same age.

A person with scoliosis has a spine that curves in both sides, forming the letter "S." It develops steadily so the signs are not instantly noticeable. When the condition becomes severe, it can cause deformity as well as difficulty in breathing and pain.

    Back Braces for Scoliosis

The wonderful news is that, despite the lack of command on its cause, scoliosis is treatable. One of the the bulk effective means of treating the condition is to let patients wear back braces for scoliosis.

Back braces for scoliosis are a type of holding device that offer support to the spine and at the same time keeping it from curving some more. Note that back braces for scoliosis will never return the spine's curvature to normal. What they do is to keep the spine from curving more than five or ten degrees.

There are a lot kinds of back braces for scoliosis. Over the years, the technology used in making back braces for scoliosis has advanced to a amazing degree. Thus, the bulk back braces for scoliosis are now made of light materials. This is a amazing improvement from the earlier braces, some of which weighed more than 30 pounds.

In addition, back braces for scoliosis no longer need to be worn all the time. As a matter of fact, kids who have to wear back braces for scoliosis need only to spend eighteen to twenty hours a day in them.

One type, called the Charleston Brace, may only be worn while sleeping. The brace is designed in such a technique that it supports a person sleeping on his side. It is meant to push the abnormal curvature towards the center point of the body in order to prevent further curvature. Countless studies have established that spending nine hours wearing this particular brace type is just as effective as wearing other brace types for 23 hours or so.
